From Alicia:

I opted to make the brain slugs themselves from gum paste, with royal icing eyes, and flower stamen antennae that I attempted to dye green with food coloring (and very vaguely succeeded in doing so). They are vanilla cupcakes from scratch, with some slightly grenadine flavored buttercream icing brains.

If you haven’t seen the brainslug scenes from Futurama, you fail at life. But we’ve given you a chance to redeem yourself.

Also be sure to check out Alicia’s Frank Zappa yellow snow cupcakes from a previous year.

Audrey Fukman and Andy Wright took it a step further and created this handy decision tree to help you, because hey – what isn’t made better with charts?
