Howl's Moving Castle Papercraft

Anyone who has seen Howl’s Moving Castle wants to live there. And who can blame them, really? Who wouldn’t want to live in a castle that can walk on two legs, and transport you to different worlds with the turn of a dial? Sadly, Ben Millett can’t build you the real thing, but he shows us how he created this amazing papercraft version.

He notes that the PDF he used is no longer available (although the book is available on Amazon Japan), however a little birdie told me you could probably find a torrent or download of it somewhere on teh intarwebs.

Not that the little birdie would know, since that would be illegal.

And definitely not that the little birdie would already have downloaded it. Definitely not.

Futurama Brain Slug Cupcakes

Artist/illstrator Alicia Traveria created these fabulous brain slug cupcakes as an homage to one of every geek’s favorite cartoons, Futurama.

From Alicia:

I opted to make the brain slugs themselves from gum paste, with royal icing eyes, and flower stamen antennae that I attempted to dye green with food coloring (and very vaguely succeeded in doing so). They are vanilla cupcakes from scratch, with some slightly grenadine flavored buttercream icing brains.

If you haven’t seen the brainslug scenes from Futurama, you fail at life. But we’ve given you a chance to redeem yourself.

Unbelievable Bioshock Chainsaw Wood Carving

If you ever thought you’ve done anything talented, awesome or cool, trust me – it’s utter crap compared to the unimaginable awesomeness of this guy’s Bioshock chainsaw wood carving.

Seriously – just kill yourself now because you’re never going to do anything that even comes close to a guy in a hockey mask creating Big Daddy out of a giant piece of wood using only chainsaws and a torch.

I mean, seriously. Creepy hockey mask – check. Chainsaw – check. Bioshock – check. The only thing that could possibly make this cooler is if dinosaurs and bacon were somehow involved.

Life-Sized Alien Queen Made From Spare Parts

This true-to-size sculpture of the alien queen weighs in at over 1,200 lbs (550 kg) and costs a mere $6,165 USD – but given that it’s made entirely from 4,000 recycled spare parts, we think that’s actually a pretty good deal.

This large life-size Alien Queen contains over 4,000 unique parts. The parts used for construction range from a car, a boat, a dishwasher, a motorbike, a television and other pieces of recycled steel. The individual parts have been joined by welding and have been expertly crafted into limbs and other body parts. The sculpture has been expertly polished and sharp edges have been removed. Miyazakitopia

These Lego versions of characters from Hayao Miyazaki’s classic My Neighbor Totoro are part of Iain Heath’s (aka Ochre Jelly) entry to BrikCon 2010 which takes place from September 30th – October 3rd of this year in Seattle, WA.

The theme of this year’s BrikCon is “Big in Japan” and different Lego artists will be showing off their unique pieces that celebrate Japanese culture. Ochre Jelly’s theme is “Miyazakitopia” and will pay homage to the great Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki.

I would totally live in a place with a 13 foot tall 7-nippled rabbit.
